Beer Me!

I have, with great joy of course, decided to rename the ninth month Beertember in recognition of the sheer scale of beer events taking place in Dublin that month. Beer lovers should polish their tankards and iron their dirndls as there is hardly a weekend throughout the whole month that you will not be able to revel in the delights of delicious beery goodness!

Let's begin with the Irish Craft Beerfest running in the RDS from Friday the 7th of September to Sunday the 9th. Entry tickets cost €11.75 and can be purchased on Ticketmaster. Lots of the Irish breweries will be there, Trouble Brewing, Metalman, Carlow Brewing and Whitewater Brewery to name but a few. There will also be a number of guest brewers from beyond our shores, namely, Sierra Nevada and Lexington. There will be several food vendors, most likely there'll be the ever present charcoal hot dogs, favourites of every Dublin event! There will be musical entertainment but the line-up has yet to be released, one of the highlights last year was Jerry Fish. There will also be the opportunity to sit outside if the weather is decent (we are due to get some summer weather this year I think!!!) I heard a rumour that there was going to be a beer and food paring session on Thursday 6th of September which sounds exciting! For more information you can follow the Irish Craft Beerfest on Twitter and Facebook  or check out their website.

Next event on the agenda is the Paulaner Oktoberfest taking place in The Mansion House on Dawson Street from Thursday 13th of September to Sunday 16th. Doors open at 5pm. This is a free event and tables can be booked through their website. Paulaner will be converting The Round Room into a beer tent for the weekend complete with oompah band and traditional Bavarian food. You can follow the Paulaner Oktoberfest on Facebook

Running at the same time as the Paulaner Oktoberfest is the Deveney's Secret Beer Garden Festival which will be held in Pembroke District in Dundrum Town Centre on Saturday 15th of September from 2pm to 10pm (not much of a secret at this stage!!!) This event costs €20.00 and inculdes a souvenir tankard and three tokens for beer tastes. Extra tokens can be purchased at a cost of €2 for each 150ml serving. This event took place last year in the Tripod on Harcourt Street but it's closure has caused the relocation. Last years event included some very good musical entertainment and decent food stalls including a yummy pig roast, I will be expecting more of the same this year! For more information you can follow Deveney's Secret Beer Garden Festival on Twitter  and Facebook or check out their website

If you are still with me the next beer event in Dublin in September will be the Erdinger Oktoberfest taking it's annual place in Georges Dock in the IFSC. If you are unsure about the location just follow the smell of sauerkraut which permeates the whole of the IFSC for the duration of the festival! This event is free and you can book tables through their website. This is by far the longest of all the events so you have no reason to miss it! It begins on Thursday the 20th of September until Sunday 7th of October. While the event runs until after midnight every night if you wish to stay drinking after 10pm you will need to purchase a wrist band at a cost of €6 which includes a meal and a €1 donation to charity. Entertainment ranges from oompah bands to German rock, do you know the words to 99 Red Balloons in German?

If you have made it to the end of my beer tour de force and have decided that you really don't like beer then worry not! All those wine enthusiasts out there will be interested to hear that McGuigan Wines are bringing 70 mature grape vines to Dublin and intend creating a City Vineyard in Temple Bar's Meeting House Square. You can visit from Wednesday 5th of September to Saturday 8th. For more information see their website.

For those of you who don't imbibe then despair not, Beertember will not be a lost month for you, there's always Culture Night
